Houthis Strike Saudi Oil Refinery on Red Sea Coast
The Houthi rebels in Yemen have claimed responsibility for striking an oil facility on Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coast. According to Yahya Saree, the group's military spokesman, they targeted the Aramco refinery in Jizan with a drone strike.
The attack was allegedly carried out in response to Saudi drone incursions into northwest Yemen, and marks a significant escalation of tensions between the two nations. The Houthis control vast swathes of Yemen, including the capital Sanaa and areas on the border with Saudi Arabia's Red Sea provinces.
This is not the first time the refinery has been targeted by the Houthi rebels; in July, they also struck the facility. The 2022 truce in Yemen's civil war appears to have collapsed last month, with the Houthis announcing a maritime blockade of Saudi Arabia and hitting its tankers in the Red Sea.
