Houthis Strike Saudi Refinery Amid Regional Tensions
The Iran-aligned Houthi terrorist group attacked Saudi Aramco's Jazan refinery on Sunday, citing regional instability and a Saudi siege. The attack comes two days after Saudi Arabia signed a defense pact with Turkey and Pakistan in response to growing tensions from the US-Israel war on Iran.
The alliance between Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan stipulates that an armed attack against any of the three would be regarded as an attack on all. However, it remains unclear whether or how either Pakistan or Turkey would join in a Saudi response to the latest attacks.
Saudi authorities said a fire broke out at the refinery but was later extinguished with no injuries. The Houthi military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, posted on X that they used a drone to target the refinery, which processes 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day in southwestern Saudi Arabia.
