Houthis Strike Saudi Refinery Amid Regional Tensions
The Iran-aligned Houthis in Yemen have attacked Saudi Arabia's Jazan refinery, targeting the facility just two days after Riyadh signed a defense pact with Turkey and Pakistan. The strike used a drone to target the refinery, which processes 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day in southwestern Saudi Arabia.
The Houthi military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, said they had also carried out missile and drone strikes on the Yemeni Red Sea port city of Mocha. The port is close to the strategic Bab el-Mandeb strait, which links the southern Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.
The attack on the Jazan refinery comes after Saudi Arabia signed a defense pact with Turkey and Pakistan in response to growing regional instability from the US-Israeli war on Iran. The alliance stipulates that an armed attack against any of the three countries would be regarded as an attack on all.
