Houthis Strike Saudi Refinery Amid Regional Tensions
Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis attacked Saudi Arabia's Jazan refinery in a drone strike on Sunday, just two days after Saudi Arabia signed a defense pact with Turkey and Pakistan. The attack is part of a growing regional instability fueled by the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran.
The Saudi energy ministry said a fire broke out at the refinery but was quickly extinguished without causing any injuries or significant damage. However, authorities are still dealing with the incident, and its cause remains unclear.
The Houthis have targeted Aramco sites before in Jazan, which processes 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day. They also struck the Yanbu refinery on the Red Sea last month.
Yemeni military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the Houthi strikes were aimed at Saudi troops and weapons arsenals in the area. The attack has sparked concerns about the safety of commercial and maritime activities in the Red Sea, with the Yemeni transportation ministry stating that severe damage was caused to the port's infrastructure.
