Houthis Strike Saudi Refinery Amid Regional Tensions
Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis launched a drone attack on Saudi Aramco's Jazan refinery, striking at the heart of the kingdom's oil production. The strike came just two days after Saudi Arabia signed a defense pact with Turkey and Pakistan to strengthen collective deterrence against aggression.
The Houthi military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, posted on X that they used a drone to target the refinery. This is not the first time the Houthis have targeted Aramco sites in Jazan, which processes 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
Saudi authorities said a fire broke out at the refinery but was quickly extinguished with no injuries reported. However, the incident has raised concerns about the vulnerability of Saudi Arabia's energy infrastructure to Houthi attacks.
The attack on the Jazan refinery is part of a larger escalation of tensions in the region, with the Houthis declaring a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia last month and accusing Riyadh of imposing a siege on them.
