Houthis Target Aramco Refinery in Escalation of Attacks on Saudi Arabia
The Iran-backed Houthis have escalated their attacks on Saudi Arabia, targeting an oil refinery in the southern Red Sea coast. The refinery, owned by Aramco, was hit with a number of drones in response to airspace violations over Yemen's governorates of Saada and Hajjah.
This is the latest in a series of attacks by the Houthis against Saudi targets. Last month, they welcomed an Iranian plane landing in Sanaa, leading to a spate of tit-for-tat attacks. They have also announced a maritime blockade of Saudi Arabia, which has led to further escalation.
The Houthis have been at war with Yemen's government for over a decade and have recently upended a 2022 truce, launching attacks on areas they hold as well as Saudi Arabia.
