Houthis Target Saudi Energy Pipeline in Escalating Conflict
Saudi Arabia's energy pipeline is under attack by the Iran-backed Houthi group in Yemen, which has been targeting the country's oil infrastructure to pressure its neighbor and gain concessions.
The Houthis have been disrupting Saudi Arabia's east-west pipeline, which was set up as an alternative to the Persian Gulf after Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz. The pipeline has seen a significant increase in exports since February, reaching over 7 million barrels per day in June, but the Houthis' attacks have put this supply chain at risk.
The group's attacks on energy infrastructure include drone and missile strikes on Aramco facilities at Yanbu and Jazan, which has resulted in a fire at the refinery. The Houthis have also claimed responsibility for an attack on Abqaiq, the world's largest processing and stabilizing facility, which processes up to 7 million barrels per day.
