IEA Warns of 4.3 Million Bpd Oil Supply Decline by 2026
The International Energy Agency (IEA) has forecasted a significant decline in global oil supply by 2026, projecting a drop of 4.3 million barrels per day (bpd). This is due to underinvestment in new production, maturing fields, and geopolitical constraints.
According to the IEA, global supply will fall from approximately 99.3 million bpd in 2024 to around 95 million bpd by 2026. Non-OPEC growth, particularly from U.S. shale, is slowing due to capital discipline and investor pressure for returns rather than growth.
The market implications of this supply reduction could be significant, potentially pushing oil prices higher. Historically, such supply-demand imbalances have led to price spikes, affecting consumers and businesses globally. A 4.3 million bpd supply reduction could add $10, $20 per barrel to crude prices.
