India Boosts LPG Output Amid Supply Disruptions
India has taken measures to boost its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) output in response to supply disruptions caused by the Strait of Hormuz crisis. The country's refineries have been ordered to produce a maximum of 63,810 tonnes per day, with Reliance assigned 18,000 tonnes/day and ONGC, Oil India, and GAIL expected to provide 10% of the national target.
The move aims to ensure domestic cooking-gas supplies, but experts consider it a short-term solution rather than a long-term fix. Domestic refinery flexibility and logistics will likely constrain future gains, and India's exposure to supply risks serves as a lesson for countries reliant on imported energy.
