India Corn Production Slips 9% Amid Weak Monsoon

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has lowered its estimate for India's corn production in the 2026/27 season due to a weak monsoon, which has affected the kharif crop.

The estimated output is now at 50.0 million metric tons, down 4 percent from last month's forecast and 9 percent below last year's level.

Roughly 75 percent of India's corn comes from the kharif season, which heavily depends on the southwest monsoon's performance. This year's monsoon was delayed, pushing corn planting behind last year's pace.

Satellite data shows less crop vigor compared to both last year and the longer term average, a pattern most pronounced in India's central region.
