India Cracks Down on Duplicate Gas Connections Amid Global Supply Crunch
India's Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has implemented new rules to regulate LPG connections due to a global supply crunch caused by the US-Israel-Iran war in the Middle East.
The government aims to eliminate black marketing, ensure genuine usage of cooking gas, and bring opportunities to those who genuinely require an LPG connection or depend on one.
Under the rules, consumers with PNG connections must surrender their domestic LPG connections and cannot obtain new LPG connections. The government has set a three-month timeframe for citizens to switch to PNG completely if they have the infrastructure in their society or household.
The National PNG Drive 2.0 has been extended till June 30, 2026, to sustain momentum in PNG expansion.
