India Denies U.S. Ethanol Import Plans Amid Blending Program Success

India has denied reports that it plans to import large quantities of ethanol from the United States for fuel blending, claiming the claims are 'baseless and factually incorrect.'

The Commerce Ministry said that all ethanol used in India's Ethanol Blended with Petrol program is sourced domestically, and no U.S. ethanol is being imported.

India has made significant strides in reducing its dependence on crude oil imports through the blending program, which has saved more than Rs 1.90 lakh crore in foreign exchange between fiscal 2014-15 and May 2026 by replacing about 310 lakh metric tons of imported crude oil.

The government described the blending program as an important part of India's energy transition and biofuel strategy, which has also created additional markets for farmers and reduced carbon emissions by more than 930 lakh metric tons.
