India Launches 10-Year Mission to Boost Compressed Biogas Production
The Indian government has launched a 10-year mission to increase compressed biogas (CBG) production and reduce the country's dependence on imported natural gas. The Compressed Biogas Mission aims to expand CBG production 12-fold from current levels, with a guaranteed price of Rs 105 per kg for producers.
The mission will provide credit guarantees covering 85 percent of project loans, as well as capital support to eligible projects. This is expected to improve the commercial viability of CBG projects and reduce investment risks associated with setting up CBG plants.
The government estimates that the mission will help avoid around 40 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions and generate capital expenditure savings of nearly Rs 40,000 crore over the implementation period.
