India Launches Scheme to Boost Domestic PNG Connections
The Indian government has launched an incentive scheme to promote domestic PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connections, aiming to accelerate growth and make clean cooking gas available to every home.
As of August 18, 2026, there were over 1.74 crore domestic PNG connections across the country. The new scheme aims to incentivize CGD entities to convert unbilled connections into active, billed ones and expand the PNG network into new areas.
The incentive scheme provides additional allocation of domestically produced APM (Administered Price Mechanism) gas for each incremental connection beyond a set threshold. This will replace costlier LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), reducing overall gas sourcing costs and shortening the payback period on capital spent from 10 years to nearly three years.
