India Lifts Export Ban on Wheat Flour, Related Products
The Indian government has lifted the export ban on wheat flour and related products, effective immediately. The decision comes after a halt was put in place back in July 2022, when local prices of wheat and atta rose sharply due to increased exports following a nearly 40% rally in global rates post the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The war had disrupted logistics in the Black Sea region, with vessels being struck by Ukraine and Russia. This led India to step up its own wheat shipments, which accounted for about a quarter of all wheat trade at the time.
With the amendment to the Export Policy of Wheat Flour and Related Products provision, exports can now be made freely without any upper limit. This marks the first time since 2022 that such exports have been allowed without restrictions.
