India Lifts Four-Year Wheat Export Ban Amid Global Supply Pressures

India has lifted its four-year ban on wheat exports as of immediately. The move is aimed at supporting farmers by increasing domestic prices and improving returns.

The decision follows a record production of 120.65 million tonnes of wheat during the 2025-26 crop year, up from 117.94 million tonnes the previous year. India's Food Corporation holds nearly 49 million tonnes in buffer stocks.

Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra said the export ban has been lifted to raise domestic prices and improve returns for farmers. 'The export ban has been lifted in the interest of farmers,' he said.
