India Lifts Wheat Export Ban After Four-Year Restriction

India has lifted its four-year ban on wheat exports, allowing traders and exporters to sell grain in international markets. The government removed the export restriction on regular wheat and Durum wheat with immediate effect, effective August 24, 2026.

The relaxation also covers wheat-based products like wheat flour, maida, and semolina. This change gives exporters and flour mills a wider opportunity to sell both raw wheat and processed products to overseas buyers.

India imposed the export restrictions in May 2022 when domestic prices were rising due to concerns over wheat production following extreme heat and the Russia-Ukraine conflict's impact on global wheat availability.
