India Lifts Wheat Export Ban Amid Global Supply Disruptions

The Indian government has relaxed export restrictions on wheat products, including atta and maida, to boost overseas demand following disruptions in global supplies.

The decision came amid soaring prices and increased demand for Indian wheat due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The Centre initially imposed curbs on wheat exports in May 2022 and extended restrictions to wheat flour exports in August of that year to ensure domestic food security and contain rising prices.

The government allowed the export of 25 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of wheat and an additional 5 LMT of wheat products in February this year, citing improved stock availability.
