India Lifts Wheat Export Ban to Ease Global Supply Chains

India has lifted its ban on wheat exports, effective immediately, in an effort to ease global supply chains affected by the Russia-Ukraine war. The move comes after India banned wheat exports in May 2022 as part of measures to control rising domestic prices.

The government removed the export ban on wheat flour and other products such as maida, semolina, and wholemeal atta, according to notifications issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade.

India is the world's second-largest wheat producer, with a projected production of 110-120 million tonnes for the 2025-26 crop year. The government had previously allowed exports of 25 lakh tonnes of wheat in February.
