India Lifts Wheat Export Ban with Immediate Effect

India has lifted its ban on wheat exports, allowing overseas shipments to resume immediately. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) made the announcement on August 24, revising the export policy for two specific HS codes.

The DGFT notified that the export policy for durum wheat under HS code 10011900 and wheat under HS code 10019910 has been changed from 'Prohibited' to 'Free'. This means that Indian exporters can now ship these products overseas without any restrictions, effective immediately.

The government made this change under Schedule 2 of the ITC (HS) Export Policy, as per the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992 and the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023. The amendment is expected to take effect right away.
