India Reduces Rural LPG Refill Booking Interval to 25 Days
The Indian government has relaxed the LPG refill booking interval for rural consumers from 45 days to 25 days. This change aligns the refill booking system with that of urban areas, where the interval is already set at 25 days.
According to a letter dated September 7, the Petroleum Ministry directed oil marketing companies (OMCs) to implement this revised arrangement immediately. The decision comes after improved domestic LPG supply and a significant reduction in refill backlogs compared to when demand management measures were introduced.
The LPG refill restriction was initially put in place due to concerns about increased demand, panic booking, hoarding, and the need to ensure adequate availability of domestic LPG cylinders. The restriction has been relaxed as supplies have improved and delivery backlogs have dropped.
