India Rushes to Expand Piped Gas Supply Amid Ongoing West Asia War
India's push to expand piped natural gas (PNG) connections has gained momentum in light of the ongoing West Asia war, which has severely strained LPG supplies.
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board is aiming to triple the pace of bringing households onto PNG, targeting a three-fold rise in new users to 4 million this fiscal year.
Anil Kumar Jain, chairman of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board, emphasized that the focus will be on getting more households to actually use piped gas rather than merely expanding the network.
The regulator has asked city gas distribution (CGD) players to report not only PNG infrastructure connection numbers but also the number of gasified connections.
