India Secures LNG Supplies Until September Amid Qatar Conflict
India has secured sufficient liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies to meet demand until September, thanks to increased imports from the US and other countries. The move comes after Iranian missile attacks on Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar led to a shortage of LNG production.
The US has emerged as a major supplier of LNG to India over the past few months, with shipments valued at $728.29 million during April-May, a threefold increase from $199.92 million in the same period last year. Other key suppliers include Nigeria, Oman, Angola, and Trinidad.
Before the conflict, Qatar supplied about 50% of India's LNG requirements, followed by the UAE, US, and Oman. However, with QatarEnergy stopping production and declaring force majeure, other countries have filled the gap.
Experts predict that US supplies to India will increase, but there may be a supply crunch in the months ahead due to Europe's heating demand for winter.
