India Seeks Balance Between Ethanol Blending and Electric Vehicles
The Indian Federation of Green Energy (IFGE) believes that ethanol and electric vehicles should coexist in India's transition to cleaner mobility.
According to IFGE, nearly 300 million internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles remain on the country's roads, making a diversified energy strategy crucial.
E20 petrol is seen as an immediate pathway to reduce crude oil dependence and strengthen energy security, while electric vehicles, hybrids, CNG, and hydrogen continue to scale up.
Studies by ARAI, Indian Oil, and SIAM indicate a 2-6% reduction in fuel efficiency with E20 compared to E10, but testing has not shown widespread engine damage.
