India Sets LPG Production Targets for Refiners Amid Supply Disruptions
The Indian government has implemented new measures to enhance the country's energy security and mitigate disruptions in imported cooking gas supplies. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry has set refinery-wise and company-wise LPG production targets for public and private sector refiners as well as upstream oil and gas producers.
The move comes after a recent conflict in West Asia exposed India's vulnerability to imported LPG supplies. To strengthen the country's energy security, the government has laid down a framework that requires 21 refineries and upstream companies to increase LPG production whenever supply constraints arise.
The combined production potential under the new framework is set at 63,810 tonnes per day, which is equivalent to about 70 percent of India's daily LPG consumption. This is significantly higher than the country's normal domestic output.
