India Shifts Focus to Diversified Gas Sourcing Amid Supply Disruptions
The Indian gas market is recovering from recent supply disruptions and shifting its focus to diversified LNG sourcing, interconnected pipelines, city gas penetration, and domestic alternatives like compressed biogas.
Pramod Narang, Director Technical at Petronet LNG, emphasized that energy security cannot solely rely on long-term LNG contracts. He noted that India imported 18.4 million tonnes of LNG between January and August this year, up from 17.3 million tonnes during the same period last year.
Madhoop Sah, Director - Authorisation at PNGRB, stated that the organization views LNG terminals, transmission pipelines, and city gas distribution as part of an integrated network rather than separate infrastructure segments.
