India Signs Five-Year Deal to Supply Petroleum Products to Mauritius
India has signed a five-year agreement with Mauritius to supply petroleum products and shield the country from fuel price volatility. The deal, signed between Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and the State Trading Corporation of Mauritius, is a significant step in India's energy diplomacy. According to the government, this pact positions India as Mauritius' anchor fuel supplier and strengthens its strategic and economic footprint in the region.
Under the agreement, IOCL will supply Motor Spirit (MS), High Speed Diesel (HSD), and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) to meet Mauritius' entire import requirement. This partnership is part of India's efforts to provide energy security to neighboring countries, with the country already meeting the petroleum demand of Nepal and Bhutan.
India has emerged as a major global refining hub, with an annual output of 267 MMT of refined petroleum products across 23 refineries, making it a net exporter of refined products. The agreement also covers cooperation in biofuels through exchange of knowledge, research, and training.
