India Stabilizes Fuel Supplies Amid West Asia Crisis
The Indian government has moved to reassure citizens that there is no shortage of fuel, despite rising global crude oil prices due to tensions in West Asia. In an inter-ministerial briefing, officials emphasized that supply chains remain operational and adequate fuel stocks are being maintained.
To address the situation, the government announced a reduction of ₹10 per litre in excise duty on petrol and diesel. Export duties have also been imposed on diesel (₹21.5 per litre) and aviation turbine fuel (₹29.5 per litre) to prioritize domestic availability.
Domestic refiners have been directed to divert 50% of exported petrol and 30% of exported diesel to the local market, ensuring uninterrupted supply. Officials said all refineries are operating at high capacity, with sufficient crude inventories in place.
