India Strengthens Energy Ties with Mauritius Through New Oil and Gas Partnership
India and Mauritius have strengthened their energy partnership through a government-to-government memorandum of understanding (MoU) on oil and gas cooperation. The MoU was signed during Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri's visit to Mauritius on August 20-21, 2026.
Alongside the MoU, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and the State Trading Corporation of Mauritius signed a five-year sales and purchase agreement for the supply of petroleum products. Under this agreement, IOCL will meet Mauritius' entire import requirement of Motor Spirit (MS), High Speed Diesel (HSD), and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF).
The MoU institutionalises India-Mauritius energy partnership, covering petroleum products supply, training, and capacity building for Mauritian officials. It also includes cooperation in biofuels through exchange of knowledge, research, and training.
