India Unlocks $1.5 Billion Wheat Export Window Amid Policy Shifts

India's record wheat harvest has opened up export opportunities worth over $1.5 billion amid policy shifts, according to a recent report from industry chamber ASSOCHAM.

The government has relaxed rules for exporting specified wheat varieties, wheat flour, and related products, shifting them from 'Prohibited' to 'Free.'

This move is expected to expand market access for Indian producers and processors while supporting export earnings in products such as wheat, durum wheat, atta, maida, semolina/rava, and related items.

India has strong demand prospects in countries like Egypt, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Algeria, and the Philippines, driven by competitive pricing, geographic proximity, and comfortable supply position.

The global wheat market is experiencing disruptions due to weather conditions, geopolitical tensions, higher freight costs, and fluctuations in production and prices.
