India Unveils Incentive Scheme to Boost Household PNG Connections
The Indian government has introduced an incentive scheme to boost household connections for domestic PNG (Piped Natural Gas) in the country. The 'Incentive Scheme for Promotion of Domestic PNG Connections' aims to accelerate the connection process and encourage city gas distributors to expand their networks.
Under this scheme, eligible city gas distributors will receive an additional allocation of 200 standard cubic meters of lower-priced APM (Administered Price Mechanism) gas for every new household connected above a set threshold in each geographical area. This incentive is tied to active connections and not just pipeline coverage.
The government estimates that the scheme could reduce the payback period on a domestic connection from approximately 10 years to nearly three years. The incentive will be provided through gas allocation to distributors rather than as a direct household subsidy, making its effect dependent on faster connections, wider service coverage, and competitive tariffs.
