India Widens Energy Sourcing Network Amid Geopolitical Tensions
India's energy bets are spreading far and wide as it diversifies its LNG suppliers. The country now sources liquefied natural gas from 15 countries, up from six previously, to reduce the risk of supply shocks caused by geopolitical tensions and disruptions in global energy markets.
The government said that this wider sourcing network reduces India's dependence on any single country or transit route and gives it greater flexibility when disruptions hit global supplies. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry stated that continuously monitoring global supply conditions in consultation with public-sector oil and gas companies and other stakeholders is crucial to maintaining energy security.
India has also expanded its crude oil sourcing base from 27 countries to 41, the government told the Rajya Sabha on Monday. This diversification matters because disruptions in one producing region or shipping corridor can quickly ripple through global oil markets.
