Indian Army Signs Deals for Piped Natural Gas Connections

The Indian Army has taken a significant step towards adopting cleaner energy by signing agreements with six city gas distribution companies to supply piped natural gas (PNG) to 41 military establishments, covering over 20,000 households. The initiative comes ahead of the national rollout of PNG Drive 3.0 from October 1, 2026.

The Army has partnered with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), Think Gas, Torrent Gas, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Central U.P. Gas Limited (CUGL) to supply PNG to 41 establishments under the first phase of conversion. The target is to complete connections by March 2027.

The programme, themed 'Sena Sampark, Nirantar Urja, Nirantar Suraksha', was organised by BPCL in association with the Indian Army and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). Rahul Tandon, business head of gas at BPCL, stated that the transition to PNG is an important step towards building a reliable and future-ready energy ecosystem for critical establishments.
