Indian Equities Slide Amid Elevated Oil Prices and Global Market Weakness
The Indian benchmark equity indices ended lower on August 19 amid weakness across Asian markets and elevated crude oil prices. The BSE Sensex fell by 325.78 points, while the NSE Nifty declined by 0.32 per cent.
Brent crude was trading at USD 91.75 per barrel, up 0.72 per cent, while Crude oil was trading at USD 85.79 per barrel, up 0.98 per cent. The BSE Sensex closed at 76,909.68, down by 325.78 points or 0.42 per cent.
Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Limited, said that the markets turned cautious ahead of the release of the US FOMC minutes, as investors remained concerned that the Federal Reserve's battle against inflation may continue.
