Indian Equity Market Opens Lower Amid Rising Oil Prices and Geopolitical Tensions
The Indian equity market opened lower on Monday due to weak Asian markets, rising crude oil prices, and renewed geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
The Sensex dropped by 133.78 points or 0.17% at the start of trading, while the Nifty declined 58.10 points or 0.24%.
The metal sector led the decline, with a drop of 1.70%, followed closely by IT stocks which fell 1.32%. Other sectors such as media and PSU bank indices slipped up to 1%, while realty, cement, chemicals, and FMCG stocks remained under pressure.
However, the Nifty Private Bank index bucked the trend, edging slightly higher at 0.06%.
