Indian Equity Markets Slide Amid Rising Oil Prices and US-Iran Tensions
The Indian equity markets were impacted by rising oil prices and escalating tensions between the US and Iran on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. The Sensex declined 121.48 points to 76,835.79 in early trade, while the Nifty dipped 52.6 points to 24,027.80.
The Brent crude price traded 0.76% higher at $91.22 per barrel, adding to investor concerns. Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, noted that the renewed US-Iran tensions and resulting rebound in crude oil prices are weighing on risk appetite across emerging markets.
However, India's economy showed resilience, growing at a faster-than-expected 7.8% in the first quarter of FY27. This growth exceeded both the RBI's 7% projection and market expectations.
