Indian-Flagged Tanker Attacked Off Oman, Crew Rescued Safely
An Indian-flagged commercial vessel, MSV Faize Noore Oliya, sank in the Red Sea after being attacked off the coast of Oman on Tuesday. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that all 14 seafarers, including 13 Indian nationals, who were on board the vessel were rescued safely.
The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, stated that the vessel was hit by a projectile near Yemeni waters, causing it to capsize and sink. He condemned the attack as 'unprovoked' and said the safety of Indian people is the government's top priority.
The tanker was reportedly carrying oil from Saudi Arabia and was attacked with a Yemeni suicide boat 13 nautical miles off Hodeidah in Bab Al-Mandab. The MEA expressed concern over the increasing attacks on commercial shipping in the region, terming it 'deeply worrisome'. They called for an end to such attacks and free navigation through international waterways.
