Indian Gold Market Sees Uptick Ahead of Festive Season
India's gold market is experiencing a resurgence ahead of the festive season. According to the World Gold Council, favourable conditions are aligning in favour of gold. Jewellery demand and imports have increased, while stability in gold prices continues to influence market dynamics.
In the first half of August, international gold prices rose by 9% to reach $4,391 per ounce. This increase was accompanied by a 7% surge in domestic prices, reflecting a complex interplay of monetary policy expectations and a weaker US dollar.
Physical gold demand is recovering well. Kalkoura Oredokonj from the World Gold Council noted that both consumer purchasing and jeweller inventory buildup have surged ahead of the festive season. Notably, gold futures trading has seen heightened activity, indicating robust investment engagement as import values rise.
