Indian Gold Prices Edge Higher on Safe-Haven Demand and Weaker US Dollar
Gold prices in India edged higher on August 21, 2026, due to safe-haven demand and a weaker US dollar. According to Goodreturns, gold rates rose marginally in both 24K and 22K categories. The data showed that 24 carat gold was trading at around INR 1,59,430 per 10 grams, while 22 carat gold was priced near INR 1,46,160 per 10 grams in the base market.
Global gold prices remained supported by heightened market uncertainty and safe-haven buying. Investors continued to monitor movements in the US dollar, Treasury yields, crude oil prices, geopolitical developments, and expectations surrounding interest rates for fresh direction. Goodreturns cited a weaker US dollar and lower Treasury yields as key factors supporting precious metals.
Despite elevated prices, gold continued to attract jewellery buyers and investors in the domestic market. Market participants are closely watching international bullion movements and currency fluctuations, which can influence domestic gold rates. Buyers should verify live rates with local jewellers before making purchases, as final prices may vary depending on GST, making charges, and jeweller-specific premiums.
