Indian Jewellery Demand Shifts to Lightweight Designs Amid High Gold Prices
High gold prices are changing the way Indians buy jewellery, leading to a rise in demand for lightweight, studded, and lower-karat designs. Retailers like Kalyan Jewellers and CaratLane are adapting their product mix to maintain growth.
Data from Q1 FY27 shows that companies focusing on these segments are seeing strong performance. Kalyan Jewellers reported a consolidated revenue of ₹10,589 crore for Q1 FY27, with net profit coming in at ₹349 crore.
Retailers are using gold exchange programs to counter high prices. These schemes allow customers to bring in their old gold to be exchanged for newer, lighter designs.
