Indian LPG Production Soars 25% Amid Govt Efforts
India's LPG production has seen a significant increase of 25% following government measures to boost domestic supply for household consumers. The move aims to maximize LPG production by diverting streams of propane, butane, propylene, and butenes to the LPG pool.
According to Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Sujata Sharma, this directive was issued on March 8th, 2026. As a result, domestic LPG production has increased by about a quarter, with all production being directed towards household consumers.
The government is also ensuring the country's crude oil supply remains secure, with about 70% of imports coming from outside the Strait of Hormuz. The volume of crude oil secured by the government exceeds what normally would have arrived through this route.
