Indian Markets Open Lower Amid Crude Price Pressures
The Indian stock market opened lower on Monday, weighed down by high crude oil prices and geopolitical tensions. The Nifty 50 slipped 66.85 points or 0.27% to 24,299.15, while the Sensex fell 305.23 points or 0.39% to 77,704.02.
Brent crude held near $88.6 a barrel, having risen 5% last week. This is putting pressure on India as an import-dependent economy. The rupee was hovering near 95.6 against the dollar, adding to the strain.
Among Nifty 50 stocks, metals saw mixed action. Hindalco was the top gainer, up 1.17% to ₹1,041.50, while JSW Steel was the biggest loser, falling 1.36% to ₹1,252.70.
