Indian Markets Slide Amid US-Iran Standoff and Rising Oil Prices
The Indian stock market saw a decline in early trade due to escalating tensions between the US and Iran, as well as rising crude oil prices. The Sensex dipped 139.96 points to 77,235.23, while the Nifty fell 66.75 points to 24,162.50.
The US has imposed new sanctions on Iran in what it calls an 'Economic D-Day', intensifying economic pressure on Tehran. This move comes after a 60-day ceasefire window expired without further talks planned.
Global markets also felt the impact of the tensions, with Asian markets trading lower and US markets ending mostly lower on Monday.
