Indian Stock Market Crashes on Oil Price Hike
The Indian stock market experienced a steep decline on Friday, September 11, 2026, with the Sensex falling by 630 points to reach 74,272.61 or 0.84%. The Nifty 50 also fell by 0.92% to 23,261.70.
The main reason behind this decline was the hike in crude oil prices due to rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Brent crude hit a four-month peak of $109.97 per barrel before falling back to above $107 at the end of the session.
The increase in oil prices caused concerns about disruption in oil supplies through key channels such as the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, which is crucial for India as one of its major buyers.
