Indian Stock Market Falls Amid Rising Crude Prices and Geopolitical Tensions
The Indian stock market opened sharply lower on Friday due to rising tensions in West Asia, which pushed crude oil prices higher. This has raised concerns about the impact of increasing energy costs on India's economic growth and corporate earnings.
The Nifty 50 opened at 23,270.30, down 207.50 points or 0.88%, while the BSE Sensex opened at 74,309.16, lower by 593.43 points or 0.79%. Brent crude was trading at around USD 108.27 per barrel.
V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Investments Limited, said that the market is facing stronger headwinds due to geopolitical tensions and rising crude prices. He noted that an increase in US bond yields is another major concern for global equities.
