Indian Stock Market Slumps Amid West Asia Tensions and Higher Oil Prices
The Indian stock market opened lower on Monday, August 31, due to renewed tensions in West Asia and higher crude oil prices. The BSE Sensex declined by 226.60 points to 77,028.56, while the Nifty dropped 120.40 points to 24,053.55.
Market analysts attributed the decline to weak trends in global markets and foreign fund outflows. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, traded 2.33% higher at $90.19 per barrel, adding to investors' concerns.
V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Investments Limited, said that the market is facing headwinds due to the Fed chief's statement on inflation and the potential rate hike in the FOMC meeting scheduled for September 15-16.
