Indian Stock Markets Tumble on Escalating Global Tensions
Stock markets in India took a hit on Wednesday morning, September 2, as global equities and oil prices continued to trend downward due to escalating tensions in West Asia.
The benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty dropped sharply, with the Sensex plummeting 788.52 points to 76,155.76 and the Nifty losing 269 points to 23,786.80 in early trade.
Among the top Sensex firms, InterGlobe Aviation, Eternal, Mahindra & Mahindra, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Finserv, and Bajaj Finance were major laggards, while Adani Ports and Sun Pharma showed some resilience.
The rise in global oil prices, particularly Brent crude, which traded 0.76% higher at USD 95.37 per barrel, was a key concern for investors.
