Indian Stocks Plunge as Crude Prices Soar Above $107
The Indian stock market ended sharply lower on Tuesday, with both the Sensex and Nifty experiencing significant losses. The BSE Sensex fell 777.94 points to close at 74,003.82, while the NSE Nifty dropped 279.50 points to 23,118.60.
The Nifty's closing level is its lowest since April 6, and the Sensex settled at a three-month low. The market had opened higher, with the Nifty trading near 23,495 and the Sensex above 75,100, but selling pressure increased later in the session.
Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Investments Limited, said that domestic markets remained under pressure due to elevated crude oil prices and rising global bond yields. He added that investors remained cautious due to expectations of tighter monetary policy.
