Indian Stocks Rise as Oil Prices Plummet
Indian stock markets are expected to open higher on Monday, driven by lower oil prices. Brent crude futures fell around 5% after US President Donald Trump announced that talks with Iran would begin on Monday. The decline in oil prices is positive for India, which imports most of its energy needs.
The Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex gained over 2% in July, their second consecutive monthly rise, due to resilient corporate earnings and foreign inflows. Foreign investors bought Indian shares worth ₹2.77 billion on Friday, extending purchases to a third straight session.
Market focus this week will be on the Reserve Bank of India's policy decision scheduled for August 5, where interest rates are expected to remain unchanged. The central bank is expected to diverge from its global peers as inflation remains modest despite higher global oil prices.
