Indian Stocks Tumble on Crude Oil Surge, West Asia Tensions
The Indian stock market declined on Tuesday due to elevated Brent crude oil prices and rising tensions in West Asia. The Sensex, India's benchmark index, fell by 278.32 points to 77,450.64, while the Nifty edged lower by 57.65 points to 24,230.45.
The decline was attributed to Brent crude trading at $91.46 per barrel, a 0.63% increase from previous levels. V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Investments Ltd, noted that two key developments would impact the market: the escalation of tensions between Iran and the US, and the rise in US 10-year bond yields to 4.73%, which is negative for FII inflows.
However, Vijayakumar also pointed out that the Indian economy remains resilient, with clear indications of a turnaround in earnings growth. He stated, 'The tailwind for the market is the resilient Indian economy and clear indications of a turnaround in earnings growth.'
